Bio:
A close harmony folk group who were very popular in the 60s and recorded several singles
in the style of Peter Paul & Mary. They recorded more contemporary material at the turn of
the decade. The group was formed in Dublin in 1967 by leader Larry Hogan,
from Limerick, singer Suzanne Murphy (also from Limerick), John Harrington and Dennis Mowatt.
Dennis Mowatt left in 1971 and was replaced by Donal Lunny.
They split in 1972.
Larry Hogan launched a successful solo career in Ireland.
Suzanne Murphy decided to have her voice professionally trained and by 1976 had joined the Welsh National Opera
and eventually became world famous.
They played the folk club circuit in Ireland and became very popular. Though they included some traditional tunes (and
their Gael Linn 45 is essential), they
were better known for their arrangements of songs by artists such as Peter Paul & Mary, Joan Baez and The Beatles, as
well as self-penned material. They appeared many times on radio and TV (recordings may exist in the RTE archives?).
More details to follow.
