Bio:

The Resistors sprang from the ashes of the Noise Boys in 1978. They played the usual residencies in the Dublin area - Sportsmans Inn, Toners, Mississipi Rooms in Bray, etc -- and built up a strong local following with gigs often jammed. They played The Dandelion twice in October 1979, on Saturday 6th and Saturday 20th.

They made their vinyl debut in 1979 on the Just For Kicks sampler LP with a Tim McStay song "Service With A Smile" and recorded a highly regarded demo at Keystone Studios in December 1979 which included "Service With A Smile" and "Takeaway Love". The latter appeared on the self-released "For Jeanie" debut EP the following year. Despite being a really strong local draw and the obvious quality of their EP, the band never broke big and they went their separate ways in 1981.

Paul O'Raghallaigh and Tim McStay then played in Tony Koklin's backing band for the Lisdoonvarna festival twice, in 1981 and 1982.

O'Raghallaigh and McStay continued to write songs and record demos as The Resistors with Tim now handling the vocals. This second phase of the band signed with Scoff Records in 1983. When Phil Lynott heard their demos he agreed to produce their first single for Scoff. He produced the B-side "Steal my Love" (which he mixed at Abbey Road) while the A-side was produced by Jerome Rimson who has a long list of credits to his name and was Lynott's bassist at that time. The single received good airplay and the band appeared on TV and played some gigs but lost momentum and so The Resistors folded again. This single is now hard to find thanks to the Lynott connection.

Tim McStay continued writing and gigging and signed as a songwriter to an American label.
