Bio:

Metal band with 18 year old Dave King on vocals. Managed by Steddie Eddie. Redeemer played a popular Sunday night residency in The Ivy Rooms in Dublin in 1981 for a few months, including one memorable night when the power went half way through the show and an impromptu acoustic session finished it off. They appeared at various summer festivals and college shows that year as well as recording a demo in Slane Recording Studios, produced by Paul Little which was released as a cassette. The band underwent numerous lineup changes during 1981-82. Ian Brennan was replaced by Kieran McEvoy. Guitarist Mick McCarney (not the Quarterdeck guy!) jammed with the band once or twice but never joined. Dave King left in early 1982 to join the Mama's Boys but got lost en route. He later turned up in Stilwood but is best known now for his time with Fastway. He currently fronts Flogging Molly. His replacement was Mick O'Brien. After a few more festival appearances in late 1982 the band eventually disbanded. The final gig was supporting the Mama's Boys in The Milestone Inn, Balbriggan.

Kieran McEvoy and Joe Tierney were later in The Civilians with singer Des Dwyer. The Civilians gigged regularly in Dublin throughout the 80s, including a residency in the Putty Loft, the Elf Inn, and the Baggot Inn. They also played the Project Arts Centre and the Oscar Theatre. They developed a sound that mixed rock guitar with a techno style guitar and thumping rhythm section. At one stage they were tipped by Hot Press to be the next big thing but it did not come to pass - at a showcase gig in the Baggot Inn the lead vocalist walked off the stage, citing stress as the problem, and that was that.

McEvoy later formed The Summerhouse. Drummer Jimmy Rooney played in various punk and metal bands in the 80s before selling his kit. He is now playing again after a 20 year hiatus with Low Threshold, a semi acoustic, country punk outfit, and is now with the Reverend JM's Panic Worship.
