Bio:
Known as Rascal and The Rascals.
They were the offspring of members of The Denver
Showband formed around the Ponsonby family of
Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.
These siblings embarked on what one of the showband sites calls "a period of great experimentation"
as Section One, which ended in 1973, coinciding with a name change to The Rascals.
They made two self-released singles. The first "The Rocks of Bawn" is a worthy addition
to the celtic rock genre and is well worth tracking down. The second alas is a lifeless bland
nonentity underlined by the choice of cover on the B-side (David Gates & Bread). Clearly the rot had set in and
this signalled the bands collective self-induced brain-death in readyness for a
secure future touring the ballrooms. There were three further singles on EMI credited to
Rascal.
