Bio:
Evolved from The Producers. The earlier band was formed in 1978 and included
Henry Savage (vocals), Brendan McGarrigle (guitar), Tom Condon (guitar), Joe
Donnelly (bass) and John Cullen (drums). Cullen and Donnelly had earlier been in
a schoolboy punk band called Blitz. The Producers gigged intermittently
in 1978-79 performing originals and cover versions. Dee Moore replaced Joe Donnelly on
bass, Brendan McGarrigle left and wasn't replaced, and a more stable quartet
lineup emerged in 1979 under the name The Ex-Producers.
The Ex-Producers recorded a 4-song session for Downtown Radion in October 1979.
They also appeared on Something Else (BBC TV) performing "Newer Wave '79" live
at The Harp Bar. Savage then left and was not replaced, the remaining trio
continuing as The Ex-Producers with drummer John Cullen taking over vocal
duties. It was this trio lineup that recorded two tracks from the excellent
Belfast LP on Shock Rock in 1980. In 1981 the band broadcast a live set on BBC
Radio Ulster as part of a series called What Is Happening To Us. By 1982 they'd
split due to lack of success.
John Cullen (AKA Johnny Hero) later in 10 Past 7,
High Rise (a reggae band) and Glam Slam.
