Bio:
The Dreads a garage punk outfit formed in Drogheda in 1988. Their chief
influences were the New York Dolls, Blondie and The Ramones and they were
renowned for there fast, lively sets. They played around the country extensively
over the next few years, appearing regularly at the Baggot Inn and Rock Garden
in Dublin, Sir Henrys in Cork and the Boxing Club in Drogheda.
The band's debut recording was a self-released 4-track cassette released in
1989.
Fla was replaced by Jason Reynolds and by 1991 Brian had left and the band was a trio,
with Ivor taking over the vocals. This lineup recorded
an album that was never released. Jason Reynolds was then replaced by Alan Toner.
1991-92 was a very busy period for the band. They received a lot of press and a lot
of record label interest. They recorded a
Dave Fanning session and shot a video for "Crazy" on top of Temple Lane Studios and a
live set at the Rock Garden (filmed by the Ballyfermot College Rock School). All these
recordings are presumed lost.
They entered the studio for one more recording session in 1992. Recorded at Homestead Studios
in Randallstown with Chris O'Brien producing, the four tracks were intended for an EP which
unfortunately was never released.
Although the band raised a lot of record label interest in the early 1990's, they
never signed that deal. They stopped gigging in 1994.
Ivor lynch now releases dance music under the name Ridgewalkers;
Alan Toner's current
band is Eye Slave who've released an LP; Barry Rodan went on to play bass
with The Plague
Monkeys.
