Bio:
Alien Comfort formed in 1982 and were one of the bands to play a Saturday afternoon half hour
gig in the Base X record shop on Batchelor's Walk in Dublin in 1982.
Their 1984 demo was reviewed in Hot Press who described it as "heavy white-funk-reggae"
with "shades of The Police/Men At Work" and Edge-like guitarwork.
Those who've heard the demo tape (which was played by Fanning) confirm the heavy
Police stylings of "Finglas Reggae", their most popular song,
but also hear Postcard Records jangly guitar-pop in the other songs. So the funk
is 'theoretical'. Their self-confessed highpoint was supporting UB40.
Mainman and chief songwriter Fred Malone later peformed some Alien Comfort songs in
solo sets playing bars and clubs in Germany in the late 80s/early 90s.
Alan Downey was later in Aslan.
Paul Tighe also played with Meelah XVIII.
Noel Green was later in the Pleasure Cell.
